The climate of the desert state of Rajasthan, India is hot and dry and the main form of transportation is by camel. I was traveling through on a camel safari when we stopped, late in the afternoon, at a small village. A young woman with a golden bowl balanced on her head came out of an old house near where the camels had been tied. The light was warm and I motioned with my camera. She took the bowl off her head and let me take one frane before she disappeared back into her house. - Kraig Lieb, 1989.

A trained masseurs giving an oil massage at a "ghat" (platform constructed on the river bank) in Varanasi. These masseurs ply their trade at "ghats" in religious places, where people throng to worship in the river, a custom that has been prevalent for centuries. These masseurs, it is believed, can cure all kinds of aches, pains and minor ailments.
