The longest river in Sabah, the Kinabatangan River is also the route Chinese traders used in search of the highly priced bird nests, shark's fins and pearls.
Together with Danum Valley and Maliau Basin in the interiors of Sabah, the Sukau jungle is one of the richest tropical rainforest in the world. However, Sukau is more popular because it is a lot more accessible compared to the hours of hiking travelers need to get into Danum Valley and Maliau Basin.
