On A Cruise Along Kinabatangan...

by Ee Lin Wan, Sep 24, 2002 | Destinations: Malaysia / Sabah
During our trip to Sukau, we stayed at chalets like this. Although basic, the chalets are equipped with en-suite bathrooms and have solar-heated hot water.

The longest river in Sabah, the Kinabatangan River is also the route Chinese traders used in search of the highly priced bird nests, shark's fins and pearls.
Together with Danum Valley and Maliau Basin in the interiors of Sabah, the Sukau jungle is one of the richest tropical rainforest in the world. However, Sukau is more popular because it is a lot more accessible compared to the hours of hiking travelers need to get into Danum Valley and Maliau Basin.
Pockets of swamps along the tributaries of Kinabatangan River.

A story told with photos.
