Hua Hin, located 200 km South of Bangkok on the West coast of the Gulf of Thailand, became popular as a rainy season retreat in the 1920's with the construction of the railway line from Bangkok. It is still one of the most popular beach resorts in Thailand today.
Hua Hin is home to many national parks. Kaeng Krachan National Park extends along the Burmese border from Petchburi Province north of Hua Hin. To the south, Thailand's first Marine National Park, Khao Sam Roi Yot, is only about 35 km away. A bit further away, in Kanchanaburi Province, there are five more national parks, Erawan, Sai Yoke, Sri Nakarin, Khao Laem, and Chalerm Rattanakosin.
